Dog Feeding Aggression | Dog Food Aggression

Dog aggression can cause a serious or even fatal bite. Therefore, it’s wise to be extremely careful around - and even avoid - an aggressive dog.

Dog aggression behavior: Signs of an aggressive dog include baring of teeth, growling and snarling, raised hackles, and lunging.

Dog aggression can be caused by a number of things including a medical condition, lack of socialization, abuse, and pain.

Pain aggression, for example, can be caused by periodontal disease. So it’s important that you know how to brush your dog’s teeth and ensure your dog gets proper dental care.

Another type of dog aggression is dog feeding aggression or dog food aggression.

Dog feeding aggression is evident when a dog growls when someone comes near its food or even when its food is being given to it.

Dog feeding aggression can include the dog jumping up and even biting the dog owner’s hand as the food is being given to the dog.

Keep in mind that feeding time is important to a dog and you shouldn’t disturb it while it is feeding.

Dog feeding aggression can occur with an Alpha dog - where the dog considers itself the “pack leader.”

When an Alpha dog is fed by its owner, the dog thinks it’s being fed by a subordinate. So in order to discourage dog feeding aggression, the roles must be reversed - the owner has to be seen as the pack leader.
